RACHEL: We’re always working to support access to treatment. We explore every option available to minimize the costs, like copay assistance, the patient assistance program, temporary coverage for patients enrolled in PTC Cares.

CARLA: You know, worst case scenario we need a signature from you here and there. But at the end of the day, delivering that news that, “Hey, we’re good for another year” and it’s like the audible sigh of relief.

RICK: And to Rachel’s point, they have so much other things going on that if we can kind of lift that burden of insurances and, you know, specialty pharmacies and all those intricacies.

Coordinating Care Between the Pharmacy, Insurance, and Physician

CARLA: Coordinating that care between pharmacies, the insurances, the physician. You know, it’s the last thing that they should have to do because they deal with so much already.

RICK: Absolutely.

CARLA: And, you know, we want to be that kind of like safe haven.

HELPING FAMILIES OVER HURDLES

CARLA: Is there a challenge you helped a family through that still sticks with you?

RACHEL: Yeah, there’s definitely been a couple of times where families have reached out and it’s just a really memorable phone call where, you know, they called in with a really big problem or a really big concern.

Support That Goes Beyond Treatment

RACHEL: And I’ve been able to walk them through what our steps are going to be and take a lot of stuff off their plate so they can go back to focusing on what they need to and I’ll handle the insurance stuff.

RICK: I had one family, the family that I met at this convention who again, it was super impactful. And she was talking. She was speaking and she basically said without PTC Cares, my son wouldn’t be on this medication.

RICK: Have you ever received a message from a family that reminds you why you do what you do?

RACHEL: Yeah, I definitely have. I’ve gotten some really impactful emails from some families just thanking me for their support and getting that shipment out to them.
